Digital Battery Passport
The EU Battery Regulation (EU 2023/1542) makes data the condition of market access.
From 18 February 2027, EV batteries, light transport batteries and industrial batteries of 2 kWh or more cannot enter the EU market without a Digital Battery Passport, a mandatory electronic record of lifecycle, carbon footprint and material composition. The Battery Regulation is not another compliance document. For EV, light transport and industrial batteries of 2 kWh or more, it requires a live lifecycle record built on battery-level data, from design and sourcing through manufacturing, use, repair, repurposing and recycling.
For most companies that data sits across ERP, PLM, MES, supplier portals, spreadsheets, LCA tools and battery management systems. Without a connected architecture, readiness stays manual and does not scale across a product portfolio.
